Belajar Tentang Question Tag Beserta Perinciannya

    Statement + Auxiliary/Modal + not + subject (Pronoun)
* Question tag mengikuti Auxiliary / Modal
* Subjek harus berbentuk Pronoun
* Kalimat negatif - Question Tag positif
* Kalimat positif - Question Tag negatif

Auxiliary Verb yang Digunakan

a. Kalimat dengan be

Predikatnya menggunakan kata kerja be (am, is, are, was, were)
  • You are a teacher, aren't you?
  • She was late, wasn't she?
  • You are a student, aren't you?
  • She is very smart, isn't she?
  • They aren't ready yet, are they?
  • He wasn't angry, was he?
  • The room is cold, isn't it?
  • She is the manager, isn't she?
  • You are at home, aren't you?
  • They are diligent, aren't they?
  • We are ready, aren't we?
  • They were late, weren't they?
  • He isn't fat, is he?
* be bukan kata kerja tindakan (run, eat, go)
* Karena sudah pakai be, tidak pakai do / does / did
* be berfungsi sebagai penghubung subjek dengan keterangan (Adjective, Noun, nama tempat)
* Jika orangnya lebih dari 1, subjeknya pakai 'They'

b. Simple Present / Past (tanpa Auxiliary)

Disini kalimat memakai kata kerja biasa dan tidak ada is / are / was / were / can / will / do / did. Maka Question Tag wajib pakai do / does / did
  • You like tea, don't you?
  • She plays piano, doesn't she?
  • They went home, didn't they?
  • He didn't call you, did he?
  • They went office early, didn't they?
  • She works here, doesn't she?
  • They have a car, don't they?
  • She has a cat, doesn't she?
  • You don't like coffee, do you?
  • She doesn't work here, does she?
* Auxiliary do / does / did sudah ada, jadi langsung pakai di tag

c. Auxiliary Have / Has / Had (Present / Past Perfect)

  • We have finished the work, haven't we?
  • She has left already, hasn't she?
  • They had met before, hadn't they?
* Have disini bukan yang bermakna 'punya' tapi Auxiliary

d. Modal Verbs

Jika kalimat utama pakai Modal Verb (can, could, will, would), maka Question Tag wajib pakai Modal Verb yang sama; tidak boleh diganti atau ditambah do / does / did.
  • You can drive, can't you?
  • She will come, won't she?
  • He should apologize, shouldn't he?
  • He can't swim, can he?
  • They won't agree, will they?
  • She should not buy it, should she?
  • You can speak English, can't you?
  • She must be tired, mustn't she?
  • You might be right, mightn't you? (Jarang, tapi benar)
  • He would help us, wouldn't he?
  • You would like it, wouldn't you?
  • We should be careful, shouldn't we?
  • She will help us, won't she?

Intonasi & Makna

Dalam konteks ini kita tidak hanya menganalisis berdasarkan teks tulisan secara struktural gramatikal saja, akan tetapi juga aspek intonasinya juga merupakan perhatian tersendiri.

a. Intonasi naik

Digunakan saat benar-benar bertanya / tidak yakin
  • You didn't lock the door, did you?

b. Intonasi turun

Dipakai jika sudah yakin namun hanya sekedar mengkonfirmasi
  • It's a nice day, isn't it?

Bentuk Khusus

a. "I am" Question Tag-nya 'Aren't I?'

  • I'm late, aren't I? (Bukan pakai I am not)

b. Kalimat imperatif

  • Open the window, will you?
  • Don't be noisy, will you?
  • Have a sit, won't you?
  • Don't bother me, would you?
  • Don't be late, will you?
  • Don't touch that, will you?
  • Pas me the salt, would you? (lebih sopan)
  • Sit down, won't you?

c. Let's

  • Let us / Let's go, shall we?
  • Let's not argue, shall we?
  • Let's start the meeting, shall we?
  • Let's eat, shall we?
* Question Tag selalu pakai 'Shall we', untuk 'will we', 'do we' dianggap tidak baku dalam English standar
* Walaupun 'shall' jarang digunakan dalam kalimat biasa (terutama American English) setelah 'let's', shall tetapi sangat umum dan benar

Kesalahan Umum

  • She likes coffee, don't she? (Salah)
  • She likes coffee, doesn't she? (Benar)
  • Ali is here, isn't Ali? (Salah)
  • Ali is here, isn't he? (Benar)
Sekian dan Semoga bermanfaat 🌟
